Marilyn Six
Known for her gorgeous brown eyes and beautiful smile, 80
year-old Marilyn Six is also known as a special friend to
thousands of children. When she smiles at a child, they
know they have somebody on their side. Marilyn is a founder
of theAssistance League of Phoenix. Today the organization
has a variety of service programs serving the needs of over
15,000 individuals. It provides clothing for 3500 school
children; tutoring and special education for in-need school
children; 4000 teddy bears annually to traumatized children;
scholarships to help students complete their final two years
at an Arizona university and emergency clothing and personal
items for rape and assault victims in conjunction with the
Family Advocacy Center.
Marilyn defines volunteerism. Because of her lifetime
dedication, children have new wardrobes and new outlooks on
their schoolwork. Their attendance improves. Their self-esteem
improves. But her real legacy is the smiles that come from
thousands of children who know that they’ve got somebody on
their side.
