The Hon Kachina Council is made up of men and women from the business community who volunteer time and spend many hours soliciting nominations and working through the arduous process of selecting the most dedicated volunteers in the community. They collect data, conduct interviews and present their findings which result in reducing the almost 100 nominations to a select number of finalists. These finalists are presented to a Board of Governors , a group of prestigious community leaders, to make the final selection. In addition, Council members also take the lead in attracting sponsors and soliciting contributions as well as attending to the many details of the awards program.
The Hon Kachina Volunteer Award is an auspicious recognition for a life devoted to helping the community through volunteerism. As a highly respected award, the selection process is handled with extreme care.
Once all of the nominations have been submitted, the Hon Kachina Council members are assigned nominee applications to begin the examination process. Over a period of eight weeks, the nominators are interviewed as well as references and the nominees themselves. The collected information is presented to the committee over six separate meetings as they narrow the selection to 12-14 finalists.
Finally, a Board of Governors made up of prominent businessmen and women are given a summary of each finalist and from this, make a final selection of seven to nine honorees.
